Developing Rural Communities through Sports Coaching and participation.

GLOBAL PRO COACHING

“Sport has the power to change the world”

Nelson Mandela

Sport is a universal tool to bring individuals and communities together to discuss social and economic issues that affect us all. Global Pro aims to support the development of long-term mutually beneficial sports relationships in developing communities and countries around the world. We also want to shape the leaders of tomorrow by giving young people around the world enhanced leadership skills, as well as sport-specific development.

who we are

I'm Njabulo Zwane, founder of Global Pro and a Level 4 Tennis Coach in Scotland. I visit Eswatini annually and have recently started aiding in tennis coaching and sports volunteering programs, a passion of mine from before I left for the UK. Besides organising tennis tournaments for children aged 5-14, I donate sports kits to the Enkhanini community. I am eager to collaborate with those willing to break cultural and gender barriers for a better world.

  • We want to use sports as a tool to educate, empower and eliminate social barriers. Sport plays such a key role in our society and is critical to the development of children. It teaches them core values such as teamwork, respect, compromise and leadership, as well as improving health and general mental wellbeing.

Sport is a universal tool to bring individuals and communities together to discuss social and economic issues that affect us all. Global Pro aims to support the development of long term mutually beneficial sports relationship in developing communities and countries around the world. We also want to shape the leaders of tomorrow by giving young people around the world enhanced leadership skills, as well as sport specific development.

Another thing that Global Pro provides, is opportunities for individuals from around the world who wish to develop their skills through volunteering in sports coaching and other volunteer opportunities in Southern Africa.

Sports for development programs can become a powerful tool for development and learning. They promote participation, inclusion, human values, acceptance of rules, discipline, health promotion, non-violence, tolerance, gender equality, teamwork, among others. All of the aforementioned problems are visible in the less developed communities of developing countries. These issues can be dealt with by adopting programs that directly address them as part of their routine.

  • Through sports participation, Global Pro aims to promote the importance of education, as well as supporting children into education through sponsorships and funding.

Education is main focus as it is key to lifting people out of poverty. Education gives people in poverty the skills to not only earn money, but also improve their basic daily knowledge. It is a sustainable tool that does not only help someone for one day but rather a lifetime and can also be passed down through generations.

Education is a powerful tool by which economically and socially marginalised adults and children can lift themselves out of poverty and aid them to participate fully as citizens.

  • Through our work, we aim to encourage more female participation in sports and in leadership roles throughout coaching, organisations and refereeing. Global Pro also aims to create opportunities for young girls to get involved in sports, in particular sports coaching.

The gender gap in physical activity and sports participation starts early. Women still remain underrepresented in sports such as tennis and football in The Kingdom of Eswanti. Women in sport undoubtedly face the largest barriers to sport, and we have identified the need for accessible sport and coaching opportunities for women. Based on past and present observation, there is need to engage woman and young girls in sports leadership roles in Lobamba and this programme will aim to increase the number of girls in sports coaching roles, especially tennis and football. We will be looking into launching programs aiming to directly target women to play and stay in sport, and with your support, we can make this happen.

Our aims

  • We aim to train local teachers and volunteers on sport leaders courses, through local and international volunteers. This will enable the teachers and volunteers to plan, deliver and evaluate sport activity sessions. We also aim to provide training on specific sport courses, for example tennis leader course, level one or football related courses. These would be delivered through the national governing bodies and other organisations with a majority of female representatives. This will help us to ensure the sustainability of the program.

  • We also aim to educate the local participants about the benefits of taking part in sport and physical exercise, as well as educating them about the dangers of using illegal drugs and other intoxicating substances. We also hope to be able to educate the participants about the dangers of unsafe sexual practices. We aim to form a working partnership with the local police and clinic to help educate the locals about crime prevention and healthy living. We also want to source financial help for children who have been orphaned and are therefore forced out of school due to financial scarcity. We believe that every child should be able to access education.

  • We also want to provide volunteering opportunities for gap year students and any other individual that may wish to volunteer in Swaziland and get involved in the delivering and implementing our vision. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to work with local sports volunteers through social sporting opportunities, such as football or tennis matches. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to teach new sports to the communities, such as hockey or badminton, as well as the chance to go to the capital, Lobamba and volunteer there.
